Regulatory Economic Analyst

On behalf of our Client, we are seeking a Regulatory Economic Analyst. Reporting to the Head of Regulation, this position plays a key role in reviewing and evaluating utility company submissions to the organisation and performing economic assessments to support decision-making. The Analyst is expected to make specific recommendations derived from evidence-based analyses; prepare formal reports of findings; and keep abreast of international regulatory best practices.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing economic assessments and analysing existing data, habits and information using mathematical models and statistical techniques
  • Interpreting and forecasting relevant market trends
  • Researching and analysing economic issues
  • Preparing written reports, tables, and charts of findings
  • Presenting findings to senior management and external stakeholders
  • Assisting with the drafting of statutory instruments and publications with dependency on economic input
  • Assuring compliance with all applicable obligations of sectoral participants concerning tariffs, significant market power remedies, and other related matters
  • Facilitating the transfer of knowledge and contributing to capacity building efforts
  • Working with other departments to accomplish common regulation objectives
  • Researching market and industry trends and patterns
  • Designing policies and procedures to solve economic problems
  • Applying economic theory to solve regulatory issues
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Regulation

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field from an accredited University
  • Master’s degree in Economics from an accredited University is considered an asset
  • Previous experience and/or academic background in the energy sector and/or telecommunication sector is considered an asset
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role, ideally involving interactions within a utility or a regulatory entity
  • Ability to perform sophisticated economic analyses
  • Strong organisational, analytical and project management skills
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Ability to work at strategic and tactical levels, as well as taking the initiative to diagnose issues and implement solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
