This week’s guest is John Bateson, managing director and senior portfolio manager at IIU. John began his career in KPMG. After four years of training there, he became a qualified accountant. In 1989, John was approached by Dermot Desmond and was asked to join his new corporate finance team in NCB. Consequently, John left KPMG and joined the world of business.He has worked for Dermot ever since then. In 1995, Dermot offered him a position as Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager in his new venture IIU. John has worked there ever since.

John’s work has brought him into a number of chairmanships, board memberships and directorships as well. For example, he currently sits as the Non-Executive Director at Windmill Lane Pictures Ltd and as Chairman of Foundation Quay ICAV. Of his own accord, he also sits as a board member of his alma mater Trinity College Dublin Business School Advisory Board.

James sits with John Bateson to discuss the highs and lows of his career and the challenges he experienced along the way.
